"THE FOREIGNER" - Audition FAQs

What Is Stepping Stone Players?

The Stepping Stone Players is a thriving community theatre that has been wowing audiences with professional-level performances since its first production in 2000. The brainchild of a group of Glendale PTA moms, SSP produces at least one major musical show each Fall and a drama or comedy each Spring at Hoover High Auditorium mixing local Glendale area youth and adult amateur talent with theatre professionals from throughout the Los Angeles area.

Prior SSP productions have included "The Wizard of Oz", "Peter Pan", "Bye Bye Birdie", "Annie", "West Side Story," "Meredith Willson's The Music Man," "Guys and Dolls", "On The Air!", "Oliver!", "Once Upon A Mattress", and "Cheaper By The Dozen"

Who Can Audition?

Any one:  children (not recommended for children who will not be at least 8 years old on September 1, 2009), teenagers, young adults, mature adults, men, women, amateurs, never performed before, professionals, actors, singers and dancers

When?

Auditions are:  Wednesday, March 10 and Thursday March 11 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Callbacks:  You should also be available if you are called back for further audition on Friday, March 12 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Scheduling?

You should make an appointment for your audition.  Use the request form on this website, send an e-mail to auditions@steppingstoneplayers.com or call (818) 548-3180 to request a time at least 24 hours prior to the time you would like.  You will receive a confirmation if that time is available or alternative times if it is not.

Walk-ons who do not have an appointment will be placed in the first available audition slot that evening or you may be asked to come back another day. We cannot guarantee that you will be auditioned unless you have a confirmed appointment.

If you are not able to make either of the audition nights, please let us know and we will see if we can accommodate you.

What Roles Are Available?

All roles are available. See the Cast of Characters

Can I Audition for a Particular Role?

Yes, you may indicate a preference for a particular role or roles.  That doesn't mean you will be considered only for the role or roles you specify. We may choose to offer you a role you did not indicate.  But we are a volunteer organization, so you don't have to take any role you are not comfortable performing.

What Should I Bring to the Audition?

* a recent 4" x 6" head shot; if you do not have one, we will have a camera and will take your photo at the audition
* concise performance resume, if you have one
wear comfortable clothes and shoes
* a smile and a little patience; we will try to make your audition experience as enjoyable and as efficient as possible

Do I Need to Prepare for the Audition?

We do not expect you to have memorized lines or have developed a character.  We just want to assess what we think you might be able to do by the time the curtain goes up in May.

What Do I Have to Do?

When you arrive, you will first fill out some basic forms.  We will make sure we have your photo and contact information and confirm your prior experience and availability for rehearsals and shows.

You will be asked to perform one or more cold readings from a script either alone or with others who are auditioning. Have fun with it; we just want to see what you can do.

That's it.

One of our production team will let you know if we need you for call backs.  We will probably have to call you Thursday evening or Friday morning for call backs as we won't be able to determine who we need to call back until after we have completed the auditions.

What If I Have a Schedule Conflict with Rehearsals or Some of the Shows?

We understand that you have a life and will try to schedule rehearsals around reasonable conflicts.  We may not be able to consider you for a major role, however, if you are going to miss more than a few rehearsals.  We do need you to be available in any case the last week of rehearsals and on all show days.

Will I Be Paid If I Get a Role?

No. This is a community theater and we are looking only for volunteers who are happy to perform for the experience and the joy of the theater.
